Your first hour
This tutorial takes you from a fresh Mandala to an accomplice that knows your day. You need a running node (Install on Linux), your identity created and a model chosen (The first run).
1. Say hello (2 minutes)
Open Mandala. The first page is your conversation with your accomplice. Type:
Hi. I'm Sam. I run a small import business and I want help keeping on top of mail and suppliers.
It answers, and remembers what matters. Ask "what do you remember about me?" to see it.
2. Give it a character (5 minutes)
Open Settings → Accomplice → Constitution and write two or three sentences about who it should be. Meet your accomplice has examples. Save, go back, and ask the same question again: the tone follows.
3. Set one rule (2 minutes)
Type:
From now on, never schedule anything before 10:00.
Your accomplice saves it as a standing rule. You will find it in Settings → Accomplice → Standing rules.
4. Bring in one channel (10 minutes)
Pick the one you use most:
- WhatsApp: WhatsApp
- Telegram: Telegram
- Gmail (an account already connected): Set up your email
Then open Communications. Conversations appear as the first sync runs. A chat stays closed to your accomplice until you press Allow Alma to see this chat: you decide, chat by chat.
5. Ask for a catch-up (3 minutes)
Back in the conversation, type "catch me up" or "what's waiting on me?" (or press a suggestion above the composer). Your accomplice reads what it may read and answers with links to each thread.
6. Send something by your words (5 minutes)
Draft a reply to the last message from Ana saying the price list goes out Friday.
The draft appears live beside the conversation. When it asks to send, an approval card appears. Instead of tapping it, type:
yes, send it
Your words approve exactly that card. Open Activity to see the act recorded: who acted, for whom, and why. Approvals
7. Start a grocery list (3 minutes)
Add milk, eggs and coffee to my groceries.
Open Personal → Groceries: the list is there, by aisle. Adding to shopping lists is one of the few things your accomplice does without asking, by default. What your accomplice may do alone
8. Write a note (5 minutes)
Open Knowledge, press +, and write a page about a supplier. Type [[ to link another page. Add a task line:
- [ ] Call Seafrigo about the October invoice @due(2026-11-03)
It shows up in Tasks and Agenda at once. Knowledge
9. Put it on your phone (5 minutes)
On your iPhone, open your Mandala address in Safari, Share → Add to Home Screen, open it from the Home Screen, then Settings → Notifications → Turn on. Install the web app on your phone
10. Tomorrow morning
At 07:30 your accomplice sends a short morning briefing, and at 23:30 it writes its diary. Both are configurable. Morning briefing, follow-ups and diary
You now have an accomplice that knows your channels, your rules and your notes. Next: Your accomplice.
