Set up your email

Mandala reads and sends mail through Gmail. Each Gmail account shows in Communications with its mailboxes and tabs, and your accomplice triages new mail in the background.

Coming soon — Connect Google from Settings. Today, adding a new Google account from the app is not available; accounts connected before (from an earlier Alma) appear and can be configured below.

Choose what your accomplice may do

Open Settings → Extensions → Google and pick the account.

• Account name and Description tell your accomplice what the account is for ("Sam's business mail; suppliers and customers").
• For Gmail: Access lets it read; Write lets it prepare drafts and sends (each still asks you); Monitoring lets new mail reach background triage, checked every n minutes.

Press Save changes.

Mailboxes and tabs

In Communications, each account has Inbox, Starred, Sent, Drafts and Spam, and Gmail's tabs (Primary, Promotions, Social, Updates, Forums). All accounts shows every account together. Stars sync with Gmail's starred label.

Smart boxes sort threads into Needs reply, Waiting on others, Money, Personal and Newsletters, as messages arrive (requires the Jev key; see Privacy, connection by connection).

Signatures

Settings → Extensions → Communications: one signature card per account, in Markdown (**bold**, *italic*, [links](https://…)), added on new emails, on replies, or both. In the composer, leave it out for one email with the signature button.

Writing

Press New email, or reply in a thread.

• Write as: which account sends.
• Rich text or Markdown, with a Preview.
• Translate the draft into another language before sending, and Replace draft with the translation.
• Draft with Alma: your accomplice writes the draft; you edit and send.

Nothing goes out until you press send. Your press is the approval, recorded like any other.

Reading

• Translate into (Settings → Extensions → Communications → Reading): messages in another language offer a translation.
• Load images in emails: off keeps remote images hidden until you ask, so senders cannot tell when you open their mail.
• Show original and Show quoted text reveal the full message.

Triage

With monitoring on, new Inbox mail (promotions and social excluded) is handed to background triage: most needs nothing, some becomes a task, urgent mail becomes a notification. See Morning briefing, follow-ups and diary.
